Electrolyzed Oxidized Water, an EPA-certified disinfectant for use against COVID-19, is produced using only three basic ingredients: water, salt and electricity. By performing electrolysis on a brine solution, hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is generated. HOCl is a naturally occurring virucide that’s 100x stronger than liquid bleach (sodium hypochlorite). Washing down building exteriors with high-pressure spray equipment is standard practice, and one that many commercial landscape companies such as Prescription Landscape perform routinely for clients. However, high-pressure washing involves large volumes of very hot water, so it is usually not appropriate, or practical, for keeping high-touch exterior surfaces clean or virus-free. Such surfaces may be in high-traffic areas where it’s impractical to use a disruptive cleaning method.
